What the half-day is like

Morning departure (or afternoon) from central Bordeaux. The minibus heads east toward Saint-Émilion, about 40 km away. Arrival at the first estate, usually a Grand Cru Classé. Your guide leads you through the cellar or tasting room; the owner or sommelier pours and talks — you taste three or four wines from the barrel and current release. Second château nearby, similar format. After the second tasting, the van drops you in the medieval village center. You have an hour to an hour and a half to walk the narrow cobbled streets, visit a macaron shop (the village speciality), sit in a café, or explore the church and ramparts. Van pickup from the village center for return to Bordeaux by early evening (or late afternoon if morning departure).
